Back muscles may produce intense muscle stiffening or spasm after repetitive strain or traumatic injury. There exists a difference between a traumatic injury and repetitive strain; repetitive strain entails the muscles being irritated over a long time until they get to the point where they induce a spasm. The muscles subsequently go into a spasm to prevent further injury from occurring to the area.

For instance a frequent golfer with incorrect form while playing or an individual whose posture at their computer is incorrect regularly may get muscle tightening over time, however it is until they perform a simple task like reaching for a glass bearing water that a back pain muscle spasm will come up. The pain accompanying this spasm can be very painful and can lead to muscles tearing in the event excessive stressors are put on them

The tearing will be followed by protecting of the person’s back musculature via extreme stiffening in a bid to guard the area from more harm. If the area is well taken care of, the back musculature pain should reduce over a 3 week period. Nevertheless it is imperative to note that healing of the painful part continues and does not peak until a six week period elapses after the first injury. This is because of the formation of scar tissue which first takes on the function of the glue; bonding the tissue together again.

The formation of scar tissue will continue past six weeks and in some instances it can take a year depending on the severity of the back pulls. The first approach in treating a back pain muscle spasm is to protect and support the muscles, assist in loosening them up and reduce the pain as well as the inflammation. After the accumulation of the area’s scar tissue commences, it is vital to start performing procedures that will e instrumental in the breaking down of the tissue of the scar that is inside the muscles to help the muscle get back its usual flexibility and reduce the chance of anymore injury. Whereas exercise is the best method for breaking scar tissue down after the healing of the area, it could further irritate the area in the first stages.

Thus, other methods like gentle chiropractic adjustments, massage and ultrasound could be used to achieve this in the early part of the injury. The Activities, Products and listed Therapies section will shed some more light on how your condition can be helped. However as very back pain muscle spasm is different, it might be advisable to get your doctor’s opinion as to the correct treatment for your specific condition.

Back muscle spasm is always terribly painful. The muscles contract violently and uncontrollably. Every movement might set off a new series of horrible muscular contractions. This experience is often described as the most painful experience of a person’s life. (I can personally agree with that statement 100%!!!)
